Description

I made up my mind about the new Yamaha R1 quite fast. I was down at the EICMA show in Italy and was really excited. But I knew that I probably wouldn't gonna like the new R1, although it would certainly have some interesting design features. And that was exactly what happened. I was at the show with a clay modeler and a bike builder and we all actually agreed regarding the looks. First of all the proportions are weird. The rear end is too short compared to the tank and the front. The front doesn't stick out as much as it should. Then we all simply said that "it's bad design". With that we meant that it's no concistency. The sharp rear end doesn't at all match the round tank. The front fender looks like it's from a different bike. The triangular piece on the side fairing is just awful. Then we have the lines. There were so many areas where the lines just didn't match. One example is the area where the frame connects to the sub frame and the plastic cover for the tank is above. Just terrible. That were our main thoughts about it. So I had this Photoshop sketch at home that I had to do some colouring on. The purpose with the sketch was to make a bike with a clean but still aggressive design and focus on good proportions. So I decided to simply do a colouring scheme that would fit a new R1 on it. So this is how I would have preferred it! :)
